The basics

What is AI virtual staging?

AI virtual staging is the use of artificial intelligence to digitally furnish photos of empty rooms. The AI reads the room's geometry, perspective and lighting, then renders correctly scaled furniture, rugs and decor into the photo — a photorealistic staged image without moving a single real object.

It replaces two older approaches: physical staging, which rents furniture at $500–$5,000+ a month, and traditional virtual staging, where a human photo editor charges $20–$100 per room and takes 24–48 hours. StageHQ produces the same deliverable — an MLS-ready staged listing photo — in under 30 seconds from $0.28 per image.

Does it move the needle? The Real Estate Staging Association reports that staged homes spend significantly less time on market than unstaged ones, and industry surveys consistently find higher offers on staged listings. We've collected the underlying studies, with sources, in our virtual staging statistics guide.

And yes, it's allowed. Virtual staging is legal and widely used in US real estate provided it's disclosed — the details are in our MLS rules and disclosure guide.

Shopping around? We keep an honest rundown of the best AI virtual staging apps and a head-to-head with Virtual Staging AI. Or skip the reading: you can try virtual staging free on your own photo first.

StageHQ stages photographs of real rooms for listings. If you need architectural renders from plans, 3D models or sketches, that is our sister product airender.studio.

FAQ

Questions agents ask first

What is AI virtual staging and how is it different from traditional staging?

AI virtual staging uses artificial intelligence to add furniture and decor to empty room photos automatically. Traditional virtual staging relies on a human photo editor and takes 24–48 hours; AI virtual staging returns a photorealistic result in under 30 seconds. StageHQ analyses the room's dimensions and lighting, then places furniture at a scale and perspective that match the original photo.

How much does AI virtual staging cost?

StageHQ costs $0.28–$0.95 per image depending on pack size — 250 images for $69 works out to $0.28 each. For comparison: physical staging runs $500–$5,000+ per month, human-edited virtual staging $24–$100 per room, and subscription AI tools $16–$127 a month billed yearly ($0.24–$2.67 per image only if you use the full quota). No subscription is required.

Are StageHQ images ready to upload to the MLS?

Yes. Every staged image downloads as an MLS-ready JPG in one click, sized to common MLS requirements (1536×1024) with a clean descriptive filename. You can also grab the original full-resolution file for portals like Zillow and Realtor.com. Combined with Precise Staging, which never alters walls, floors or fixtures, your photos are ready for compliant upload in seconds.

Is virtual staging legal for real estate listings?

Yes, and it is widely accepted. The National Association of Realtors permits virtual staging as long as it is disclosed to buyers. Best practice is to label images "virtually staged" and avoid implying structural changes. Precise Staging mode exists for exactly this — it adds furniture without touching the room's actual features.

How fast can I get my staged photos?

Most rooms finish in under 30 seconds. Upload, pick a style, hit Render, and the high-resolution staged image is ready to download almost immediately. Batch mode queues a whole listing at once.

What interior design styles are available?

Over 30, including Modern, Contemporary, Scandinavian, Farmhouse, Bohemian, Minimalist, Mid-Century Modern, Industrial, Coastal, Traditional, Transitional, Luxury, Art Deco, Rustic, Japandi and Mediterranean. You can also type a custom style description.

Do my credits expire?

Never. Credit packs are one-time purchases and the balance sits on your account until you use it. There is no subscription, no monthly reset and no seat fee — which matters if your listing volume is seasonal.

Why should realtors use virtual staging?

Because buyers start on their phones, and an empty room photographs as a floor plan rather than a home. Industry research from RESA and NAR consistently associates staging with shorter time on market and stronger offers. AI staging gets you those photos for a few dollars a listing instead of a few thousand, which makes it viable on vacant listings with no staging budget at all.
